Gasparilla parades canceled for 2021, will return to Tampa in January 2022

The pirates of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla (YMKG) have officially decided to cancel the Gasparilla parades for 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The parades were originally postponed and going to be held April 10th and 17th in Tampa. The city’s annual pirate-themed event has now been canceled entirely.

Gasparilla posted on its Facebook page announcing the cancellation saying in part, “After many conversations with the friendlies, we’re sad to announce that our pirate krewe will remain offshore until the seas have calmed, and will not invade Tampa Bay’s shores in 2021. Heed our vow, an invasion is coming and we shall capture the key to your fair city of Tampa in 2022!”

The announcement included three new dates for the welcome of the Jose Gasparilla:

  • Children’s Gasparilla Presented by Chick-fil-A Tampa Bay is Saturday, January 22, 2022
  • Seminole Hard Rock Pirate Fest is Saturday, January 29, 2022
  • Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla’s Outbound Voyage (closing event) is Saturday, February 26, 2022

Tickets for the 2021 Children’s Gasparilla and Gasparilla Pirate Fest are eligible for a refund, or ticket purchasers can elect to roll over a credit on their account to 2022 festivities. Ticket holders who choose to keep the credit on their account will receive an additional 15% bonus in value that can be used towards the purchase of tickets or merchandise.
