Palm Beach Kennel Club to host Kentucky Derby Fest, “Best Party South of Churchill Downs,” on May 6

The party will feature a jumbo screen with all the racing action, live music from Sippin’ Fire & The Kinected, a Derby hat contest, barbecue, mint juleps, prizes, and more!

WEST PALM BEACH, Florida (SOUTH FLORIDA WEEKEND) - The Palm Beach Kennel Club is hosting a “Kentucky Derby Fest” on Saturday, May 6th.

Celebrate the 149th running of the Run for the Roses at PBKC, Palm Beach County’s only location to watch, wager and win on this historic event. The party will feature a jumbo screen with all the racing action, live music from Sippin’ Fire & The Kinected, a Derby hat contest, barbecue, mint juleps, prizes, and more!

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:

  • 9:30am - PBKC Gates & Windows Open
  • 9:30am – Kentucky Derby, grab your t-shirts, hats, PBKC souvenirs, and more at the Information Center on the 1st Floor.
  • Noon – 7:15pm: On-Track Kentucky Derby Fest
    • Noon – National Anthem live by Rena Jones
    • Kentucky Derby Food & Bars Open – Tickets available: Food-$15, Liquor Drinks-$12, Mint Juleps - $12, Beer-$8, Derby Glasses $6, Desserts, Soft Drink, Gatorade or Sides.
    • Food Tent: Enjoy chicken or steak tacos, pulled pork sandwiches, hamburgers, sides (potato, pasta salads, baked beans), desserts (cupcakes, funnel cake fries, cookies), and more.
    • Trackside Bars: Featuring mixed drinks, beer, wine, soft drinks, water, and Mint Juleps with Kentucky Derby glasses available for purchase.
  • 12:30PM to 2:30PM - 95.9FM True Oldies Handicapping Contest – Visit the True Oldies table (outside the 1st floor Poker Room) for Derby handicapping tips and to enter to win great prizes including a Margaritaville Cruise, PBKC VIP experience and dining certificates.
  • 3pm to 4pm: Kentucky Derby Hat Contest with Virginia from the KVJ Show
    • Anyone interested in entering the Hat Contest should report to the 1st Floor Info Center to get their entry # by 3:00pm. The KD Hat parade featuring emcee Virginia, will take place on track soon after. Judges will award prizes to top hats and special categories.
  • 3:30pm to 5:30pm: Face Painting by Pinky the Clown and fun times with Ace the Poker Bear
  • 4pm - 7:15pm: The Kinected band performs on track
  • 5pm – 7:00pm: Derby Day Bugler performs throughout the track

Paddock Restaurant is open 9:30am – 8pm

  • 9:30am-11am: $10 Limited Breakfast Menu
  • Noon – 4pm: Paddock Kentucky Derby Buffet
    • $60 per person (includes tax, tip, soft beverage)

    • Buffet: chicken piccata, prime rib marsala, mahi Francese, penne ala vodka, crudité, meat and cheese platter, Italian sub, sides, desserts, soft beverage.
  • 5:30pm-8pm: Limited dinner menu
