The Wilson Premier Classic comes to West Palm Beach

Some of the best high school baseball players from all over the country come together to battle it out on the ball field at the Wilson Premier Classic.

Take me out to the ballpark! The Palm Beach County Sports Commission partnered with FITTEAM Ballpark of the Palm Beaches to host the 2018 Wilson Premier Classic in West Palm Beach, Florida.

“There are teams trying to get into this event because they want to play in front of these numerous college coaches and pro scouts,” said Matthew Bliven with Wilson Premier Baseball.

The event was held September 14-17, 2018. More than 1,100 athletes made their way to the Palm Beaches to compete in one of the most prestigious high school age baseball showcases. Major League Baseball scouts and college coaches from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 and SEC were among those in West Palm Beach to see how the players shaped up during the competition.

“This gives them the chance to compete at a really, really high level from the first game to the last,” added Ali Brewer with Wilson Baseball and Softball.

This was the first time that the invitation-only tournament was held in West Palm Beach at the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals Spring Training complex.

“One of our concepts with Wilson Premier Baseball is best players, best experiences, and best facilities,” said Blivens. “Obviously here in West Palm Beach and Ballpark of the Palm Beaches, when we were looking for top facilities in the state, this is obviously number one.”

Wilson Premier Baseball partnered with the Palm Beach County Sports Commission to help make the event a success.

“The Sports Commission has been great. They’ve been very easy to deal with, very accommodating, they always want to be involved in the stuff we’re doing. You don’t get that with a lot of sports commissions, sometimes they are just kind of there looking for the hotel room rebates and seeing what sort of numbers are there but they feel like they are sort of engulfed in this event so we enjoy working with them a lot.”
