We’re just going to get to the point and not try to come up with any corny opening lines — oops, too late! Join thousands of people at the 19th Annual Sweet Corn Fiesta on April 28, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the South Florida Fairgrounds. This annual event is so much fun for the whole family!
Major League Eating’s National Sweet Corn Eating Championship is always a fan favorite as contestants compete for a total prize purse of $6,100. An amateur contest will precede the professional competition. Participants must be at least 18 years old and sign up before 12:45 p.m. to enter the contest! There also will be kids’ shucking contests beginning around 1:00 p.m.
There will be a kids zone with rides for the little ones, live music from the Krystal River Band and Andrew Morris Band, and of course delicious freshly cooked corn on the cob! Click here for a full schedule of events.
Here’s a little more information from The Sweet Corn Fiesta folks themselves: “The South Florida Sweet Corn Fiesta celebrates Palm Beach County’s heritage as the “Sweet Corn Capital of the World.” Palm Beach County grows more sweet corn than any other county in the US. Local farmers cultivate more than 27,000 acres yearly. The Sweet Corn Fiesta is an outreach activity of the Western Palm Beach County Farm Bureau and is made possible by volunteers and sponsors, which include Sunshine Sweet Corn Farmers of Florida, Florida Crystals, and Palm Beach County. Proceeds go to agriculture education and advocacy and to Glades area food banks.”
